Our Pelvic Health Physiotherapists have post-graduate training and specific skills relating to the comprehensive assessment and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction, as well as neurokinetic therapy training to enhance typical pelvic floor assessment and treatment. Treatment can involve manual therapy of the pelvic floor and surrounding tissues, strengthening and conditioning, and home program education to improve overall function.

Pelvic health physiotherapy is the management of tissue dysfunction related to the pelvis. The pelvic floor is made up of muscles, associated connective tissue and fascia, ligamentous structures and nerves that attach to the front, back and sides of the pelvic bone and sacrum. These structures play an important role in core function, bladder, bowel and sexual function. They also help support our low backs and core. If these tissues are not functioning properly, one can experience incontinence, pain, and sexual dysfunction, and core dysfunction affecting other parts of the body in both men and women.

With your consent, the physical exam includes an internal examination of your pelvis to determine all major contributors to your symptoms. If you are not comfortable with an internal approach, or if it is not tolerated in regard to pain, many other external and educational techniques can be incorporated.

Osteopathy

Osteopathy investigates the root cause of musculoskeletal, visceral and cranial dysfunctions to facilitate self-regulation, optimizing the body’s function through its own structure.

Registered Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy helps to optimize the health of the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. Reducing tension and improving fluid mechanics within the body to encourage recovery and well-being.

Athletic Therapy

Athletic Therapy employs a combination of manual therapy, therapeutic modalities and corrective exercise to reduce pain, improve function, and keep you doing what you love to do.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy utilizes a very light touch to correct abnormal tensions found in the structures of the cranium, spine and sacrum. While there are many conditions that may benefit from Craniosacral Therapy, some of the more common conditions that respond well include concussions, migraine headaches, vertigo, tinnitus, temporomandibular dysfunction, neck and shoulder pain.

Athletes such as Tiger Woods, Georges St-Pierre, and multiple NHL teams use ELDOA in their training to improve performance and recover from injury. Even for those of us who aren't vying for a Stanley Cup, ELDOA is accessible, challenging, and effective for strengthening postural muscles and improving mobility where we need it most!
Each class involves a warm up (to increase the heart rate and to lubricate the joints), strength exercises for specific muscle groups, myofascial stretches, and finally ELDOAs to decompress the targeted joints. The effects of ELDOA are often immediate, and students leave class feeling taller, stronger, and well-aligned.

Alex Rayment, RMT Registered Massage Therapist, Shift Bodywork & Performance Care

Education Diploma of Massage Therapy, - Sutherland-Chan 2023

Credentials/Continuing Education Highlights Sports Massage Initiate Thai Massage modalities

Experience/Field Work University of Toronto Athletics, Track and Field 22/23 season – Student therapist 2023 Toronto Marathon – Health Support Team Lyndhurst Centre for Spinal Cord Injuries (Sunnybrook Hospital) – Clinical placement

Philosophy Alex believes that the best results are achieved when clients are active participants (not just passengers) in their own care. He sees the body as a holistic network with the nervous system in the driver’s seat. To integrate it all effectively, he often mixes non-traditional modalities into his treatments, such as Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), Joint Mobilizations or Muscle Energy Techniques (MET). He approaches issues with a wide-lens, using orthopedic and functional testing to guide treatments so they can address the root cause of any issues, not only the symptoms.

Alex was introduced to massage therapy as a way to help with his own sports injuries, mind-body connection, and general wear and tear on his body. This fueled his interest in exercise science and rehabilitation. He loves using everything he’s learned to help others with the same excellent care that helped him.

Personal experience/interests A lover of all things sports, Alex played competitive soccer throughout his high school years until injuries sidelined him. He now enjoys the game more casually. He also plays tennis and squash when time allows. He spends his quieter time writing fiction, hiking and playing board/card games. As a recovering chef, Alex is slowly rediscovering the joys of cooking for himself, but will happily talk about gastronomy anytime.

Favourite thing to treat: Compensation patterns. The body is remarkable and its ability to repair itself is a wonder. But the brain is also remarkable and the speed at which it adapts is tremendous. Even once your tissue has recovered; learned patterns of movement can stick around. Guiding the body back to healthy balance isn’t done in a day, but it is rewarding work.

Drew’s passion for Physiotherapy dates back to his years as a teenage athlete. Having sustained several shoulder dislocations playing hockey, he is no stranger to the rehabilitation journey. His personal experience with injury led to many hours spent in physiotherapy clinics where he developed a passion and appreciation for physiotherapy to keep him active and playing the sport he loves.

Drew’s goal is to teach his clients the tools to understand and manage their pain so they can return to what keeps them moving. He has worked with a wide range of patients; from grandparents looking to get back to chasing their grandkids to gym goers aiming to crush their personal records.

In his day to day practice, Drew takes a global approach to assess and treat movement dysfunctions. He focuses on faulty movement patterns to find and address the source of the problem rather than chasing pain. A typical session with Drew includes movement and muscle testing, manual therapy, and sharing plenty of at-home exercises that will aid progress.

A lifelong learner, Drew is constantly in pursuit of new courses, striving to learn different ways to help his patients each day. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Prince Edward Island and a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto. When he’s not in the clinic, you can often find Drew at a hockey rink coaching or playing, at a live show supporting his favourite bands, or honing his skills at Rock Oasis for his newfound love of bouldering.

I would love to see people before they start a new season, sport, or on a “check up” basis. I take a global approach to functional movement to re-pattern what muscles aren’t firing correctly so that I can optimize your biomechanics, and allow you to do what you love pain-free, and to the best of your ability. That may involve soft tissue work, motor control assessment and re-patterning, functional movement techniques, lots of foot work, and electroacupuncture if tolerated. I treat a lot of crossfitters and rugby players to help them rehab injuries and up their game.

My other treatment passion is music and entertainment. I’ve been fortunate to work with a number of bands, dancers and the WWE over the years and help them all rock out. It’s a really fun part of my job, given my obsession with live music.

A little more history: Jamie obtained her Masters in Physiotherapy with distinction from Leeds Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom after completing an honours degree in Kinesiology at the University of Western Ontario. She was fortunate to spend the majority of her spare time in Leeds interning with Leeds’ professional rugby union team, the Leeds Tykes. She applied the experience she gained with the Tykes as the rinkside physiotherapist for the Marlies Midget AAA hockey team and the 2009 U23 Ontario women’s rugby team. Jamie is certified in NKT (level 3), Medical Acupuncture, Rocktape, and Anatomy in Motion’s Finding Centre course. In her spare time, Jamie pursues a variety of sports interests. She competed for many years on the A-level equestrian circuit, and is an avid runner, having completed her first half-marathon in 2001. Her other sports interests include crossfit, basketball, rugby, swimming and she is a certified level 1 CSIA ski instructor.

The hyoid bone. A true trouble-maker that lays just below the jaw in the anterior neck. It is suspended by a set of muscles and has no articulations with other bones. ELDOA instructor, Shift Bodywork & Performance Care

ELDOA Teacher Trainer, Pilates Instructor (mat & equipment), Soma Trainer

Credentials/Continuing Education Highlights • Soma Training: Segmental Muscular Strengthening of the abdominal wall & thoracic diaphragm (2022), upper limbs & trunk, lower limbs (2023) • Soma Training: Global Postural Stretching (2020) • Anatomy of Technique: A Fascial Perspective (2019) • Soma Training: Myofascial Stretching (2019) • Neuroflexibilty certification (2018) • ELDOA Level 4 Trainer (graduated with highest class score) (2018) • Pilates Mat & Reformer Instructor Certification (2016) • Rock climbing lead climbing instructor (since 2012) • Rock climbing youth instructor (since 2010) • Dance instructor (since 2001)

Philosophy Sheri believes in the power of good movement for self agency, well being, and being able to simply enjoy life. She focuses on helping clients cultivate a calm mind and deep strength in ELDOA / Pilates classes and personal training sessions. A shy kid in the the competitive dance world, Sheri grew up learning to express and liberate herself through movement. In kind, her classes always include full body, large movements to “take up space”, and then deeper, challenging exercises to find and unwind one’s own restrictions, identify compensations and release stress. Sheri’s approach is influenced by Deane Juhan’s premise that the more we know ourselves physically, the better we can know ourselves in the context of the world around us. Although Deane Juhan was speaking through the lens of manual therapy, Sheri feels that movement can offer the same benefits. This means that every client’s journey, even in group classes, is a personal one.

Sheri loves working with people who are curious about the way they currently use their bodies, and how they might push their limits safely to find more freedom in their day to day movements. Her goal is to offer an equal amount of play and focused work in each class, so that clients can leave mentally refreshed and physically reinforced.

Personal experience / interests Alongside a lifetime of dance, from breakdancing to tap, Sheri also loves rock climbing and has explored crags and boulders around North America. Mountain biking is another passion, and despite a ridiculous number of cuts, bruises, and bumps, she continues to love trail riding for the gruelling climbs, heady jump lines, and exciting descents! Every morning, Sheri tries to learn a little bit of Tai Chi or Qi Gong, and a little bit of French.

Favourite muscle: Having had surgery on both knees at age 29, Sheri has a fondness for the articularis genu. This neat little muscle pumps synovial fluid into the joint capsule, deep to the patella.
